200 Chicago firefighters worked to battle a massive blaze in Bridgeport Tuesday night at a five story vacant warehouse.
Chicago Fire Commissioner Jose Santiago said the fire was detected around 9 p.m. and shortly after it was established many crews would be need to contain the fire.
The Chicago Tribune reports one-third of the Chicago Fire Department’s on-duty personnel responded. 60-70 vehicles also responded.
Bitter cold temperatures and winds made fighting the blaze difficult. The 5-11 alarm was the largest fire in the city in seven years, according to the commissioner.
The fire was contained around midnight.
One firefighter was taken to the hospital for minor back injuries.
