Two people are in custody tonight after a teenager was shot and killed on Chicago’s south side last night after a basketball game.

17-year-old Tyrone Lawson was a Morgan Park senior and an honor student with everything going for him. He wanted to go to college and maybe even join the Navy.

Last night he was shot at Chicago State University when a basketball game between Morgan Park and Simeon Career Academy wrapped up violently. handshakes on the floor between players turned into shoves. The scuffle eventually ended up outside. Lawson ran from gun shots and took two bullets in the back. He later died.

Police say the shooters took off in a jeep and they were caught shortly after the shooting.  The weapon was found inside.

Today, Chicago Public Schools called for more police presence on both the school’s campuses.
