Mother reunites with infant who was abducted
A mother’s dread gives way to an emotional reunion.
The woman reunited with her 18 month-old daughter who was abducted in Bensenville and missing for six hours Thursday morning.
Police say the mother left her daughter in her car seat in the family vehicle while she went into an apartment building at 940 W. Irving Park Road.
The car was still running, and sitting in the parking lot. She was talking to a friend. During that time, a man walked out from the building, jumped into the car, and sped-off.
One witness describes the horrific scene.
“I saw that she was screaming. Screaming about her baby and her car. And then, the first thing I did was call the cops,” said the witness.
An Amber Alert was issued. After several hours, authorities found the car parked in a driveway about a mile away from the building.
The infant was found safely inside.
It didn’t appear the girl was harmed, but paramedics checked her out as a precaution. She was also taken to a hospital, and treated and released.
Police are looking for a man described as Hispanic, heavy build, black hair, and wearing a red sweater.
They say he does not live in the apartment building, but they believe he knows people who do.
