Puppy dies after apparent coyote attack

A 7-month-old puppy in suburban Riverside has died from wounds suffered in an apparent coyote attack last weekend.

It’s owner said she did not see a coyote in the area, but the vet says the wounds were consistent with a coyote attack.

Police warn residents to keep an eye out on their pets when they’re outside, and even use a short leash.

Coyotes have been known to attack dogs on long leashes.

Officials say coyotes don’t know the difference between pets and small animals they hunt, and because of the Des Plaines River, Riverside has a lot of wildlife.
