Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy started the New Year by helping his own officers make an arrest.
McCarthy was riding along with two officers, when they made a gun bust.
Montrez Aarmstead is being held on bond for felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Police say Armstead had a loaded gun with him when he was pulled over by McCarthy and two officers early Tuesday morning.
The police department says McCarthy goes on patrols frequently, and this was not his first arrest.
