Mayoral run costs Steve ‘Mongo’ McMichael job at ESPN radio

A former Bear running for Romeoville mayor in his town has lost his day job.

Steve “Mongo” McMichael has been fired by ESPN radio.

McMichael filed his election paperwork last week and says he was told not to show up for the Bears pregame show on Sunday morning.

An attorney for Romeoville’s mayor had sent a letter to the station saying if McMichael went on the air, the attorney would seek equal air time for the mayor.

McMichael was a member of the Bears 1985 Super Bowl team.

Mongo hasn't been fired and ESPN decided not to have him on the air because of federal regulations governing air time of declared candidates. Please improve the accuracy p this article by reading the Tribune story.
