
Picnic permits for Cook County go fast on the first day of sales.
More than 800 permits were sold as of noon today.
535 were bought online, and 272 were purchased in-person at the Forest Preserve District of Cook County in River Forest.
The number of in-person sales exceeded the amount of total sales on the first day of last year.
Regular hours are Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m.—4:30 p.m.
New this year are extended peak hours. From April through September, hours will be Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m.—6:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m.—1 p.m.
Online sales will also open at 8 a.m. on January 2 at www.fpdcc.com and will remain open available 24 hours a day.

I guess there's more to going on a picnic than just packing up and hopping in the camper. Does this permit requirement apply to all counties or states?

Why does there even have to be any red tape to get through just to have some quality family getaway time? Can't we just load up the trailer and go to a nice spot anymore?
