While Chicago registered an estimated 506 homicides in 2012, Illinois’ second biggest city, Aurora, didn’t record a single one.

Ten years earlier, the city’s homicide total reached 25, but the number has gradually declined from year to year since then.

Aurora police officials credit the decline to “proactive police work.”
