Russia’s proposed adoption ban could leave many families hanging in balance

The president of Russia says he will sign a bill banning Americans from adopting Russian children.

Russian lawmakers said they drafted the law in retaliation for a new law in this country which forbids Russians accused of human rights violations from entering the U.S. or owning real estate here.

If president Putin signs the bill like he says he will, it could become law as early as Tuesday.

It has left the orphans and the families who want to adopt them who are left hanging in the balance.

WGN’s Krystle Gutierrez has the story of one Chicago-area family who just recently adopted a boy from Russia and what the new law could mean.
