Donna Fitzmaurice of Burbank, Illinois spent six years on dialysis before a “guardian angel” came into her life.

Failing kidneys prevented her from having a normal life.

All of that changed earlier this year when a stranger from Palos Hills walked into Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and simply announced that he wanted to donate a kidney.

The man’s kidney proved to be a match for 60-year-old Donna Fitzmaurice, who is a wife, mother and grandmother.

This Christmas she was able to celebrate her new lease on life with her family.

Donna and the man only met briefly after the successful surgery was completed.

She blessed him as “my angel.”

The story about the kidney donor was amazing, I can relate to this story because my daughter Miya had a kidney transplant under different circumstances. Although the results are the same it’s really amazing for a stranger to do a good deed, there are still caring people in the world.
