Meter rates to increase – again

Chicago parking meter rates will be going up again in 2013.  The news is not going over well with Chicago area drivers.  Many feel they already pay the meters too much.

Meter rates for much of the street parking in the Loop will jump to $6.50 an hour, an increase of 75 cents, making Chicago the nation’s most expensive city for street parking.

The private company with a 75-year lease on Chicago’s 36,000 metered spaces announced the price hikes for the new year.

While some believe that will free up more spaces, others are vowing to drive even less.

Rates just outside the Loop will go up to $4 an hour.  Outlying areas will cost 25 cents more, or $2 an hour.

Chicago Parking Meters LLC plans to have all the pay boxes adjusted by the end of February.

The city is under contract only going into the fifth year of the 75-year deal brokered by former Mayor Richard Daley.

Last year alone the private meter company netted over $108 million.

Take a map and look at all the Democratic Geographical Areas – that's where you'll find all the corruption, crime, high unemployment and you get it. This isn't an opinion, it's just a matter of fact. Clearly whatever Democrats do isn't working. Chicago's population decline, rampant crime and corruption, unemployment (RIP Hostess), barbaric taxes, high gasoline is really starting to give Detroit a run for it's money…or lack there of.

Geographically the lowest educational levels and highest poverty is in Republican concentrated states. The centers of culture and innovation are only in democratic areas. That's a real fact.

The city is already losing its appeal to tourists because of crime, and already prohibitively high prices for lodging, car rental taxes and parking. This will do little to make people want to come here. Rahm Emanuel should have stayed in D.C. …..

There's just some things I do not understand: Why constantly raise taxes when people are moving out of the city in droves? Why destroy historical landmarks? Why pass draconian codes/laws that do not work? Why do kids love the taste of Cinnamon Toast Crunch so much?

To help pay for the ever rising number of democratic voters on welfare. They need money to pay bills for their smart phones and Xboxes.

I am a huge hater of Rahm and do not agree with a lot of the things that go on in this city. But, do you guys realize that Rahm and the city have NOTHING to do with this? The parking meters are PRIVATELY run. Rahm and the city have NO control over them!

It's funny that we are all free adults in the USA and we are complaining about a little black box at the curbs. Crazy people kills dozens of people to free their souls from torture. You all can't find a way to kill a black box?

In case you didn't realize, you must teach your kid science and math. If your dream was to stand on a corner in an orange vest and collect a pension for it then you and your child are in trouble. Thousands of Hispanic Chicagoans are training their kids to be on a national variety show.

Unfortunately they will not be able to pay for parking meters when they are older. They will circle the block dozens of time like their parents, never finding a spot.

The private company netted 108 milllion dollars. So how much did the city net? Better be at least that or your being taken for a ride. A 75 year contract? Who signs a contract for 75 years? Will there even be cars in 75 years? Daly must have had his pockets lined real good! Glad I don't live in your city or state for that matter. The only hope for you people is that when the powers at be now are long dead and gone you void the contract. Better yet you better get rid of it now if you want anybody to come there. If your going to get charged that much the city shouldn't be sharing it with a private company. Oh yeah sorry forgot. No more government. Privatize the whole freakin mess. Hello!!!!!!!!!!!! Example of privatization folks!!!!! This is just the beginning if you don't wake up.
