CHICAGO – December 20, 2012 – WGN-TV is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the “Chicago’s Very Own” slogan in 2013. Officially launched in 1983 with a promotional campaign that featured an original song and video starring Chicago’s Very Own Lou Rawls, WGN-TV will celebrate this milestone throughout the 2013 calendar year with an anniversary promotional and news campaign. As one of Chicago’s Very Own, The University of Chicago Medicine will serve as presenting sponsor for the year-long celebration.
Included in the 2013 campaign will be more than a hundred station ID announcements featuring images of ordinary Chicago area residents, 30 WGN News reports spotlighting the stories and achievements of Chicago people and places; as well as a social media outreach that will include #CVO30 on Twitter. Viewers can also interact by visiting the Chicago’s Very Own web page at wgntv.com/cvo.
Up until 1983, WGN-TV had periodically used the term “Chicago’s Own” in its on-air station identification, but it wasn’t until 1983, when then Promotion Director Peter Marino and Mike Waterkotte of the ad agency Eisaman, Johns and Law, created and fully implemented the trademarked “Chicago’s Very Own” slogan and campaign for advertising and news purposes.
