Snowstorm sites: Web resources to get you through a Chicago winter

On tonight’s WGN News at Five, I’ll be discussing a few websites that offer some help when snow hits Chicago. Whether you’re forced to travel, or need somebody to help you shovel, these places should offer some assistance.

We’ll post the video here after it airs. Here are all of the things we’ll be going through…

Chicago Plow Tracker - When the snow starts to fall and the plows are deployed, you can follow where they are on the city’s official Plow Tracker.

Winter Road Conditions – Getting Around Illinois offers a map that shows you which major roadways are in the roughest shape.

Chicago Snow Corps – Volunteer to help an elderly or disabled person in your community by shoveling their sidewalk. On this site, you can sign up and they’ll match you with somebody in need in your area.

Adopt A Sidewalk - Here you can help by adopting a sidewalk to shovel this winter.

Chicago Shovels - This section of the city’s official site features many of the items featured above, along with more apps to help get you through the winter.

And yes, we’ve all been through this many times before. Hopefully some of these sites can make getting around in bad weather a bit easier. Have a site or app I should add to the list? Leave it in the comments below.
