The NHL lockout has now resulted in more than half of the 2012-13 regular-season schedule being cancelled after the league axed games through Jan. 14 on Thursday. In a statement, the NHL said, “the cancellations are necessary due to the absence of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHL Players’ Association and the NHL.”
It is the latest round of cancellations after the league had previously done away with games through Dec. 30. This round cost the Chicago Blackhawks another eight games off the schedule for a total 43. In all, 625 regular-season BNHL games –- 50.8 percent of the season –- were scheduled for Oct. 11 through Jan. 14.
