Document: Emanuel admin had school closing plan in September
A newly revealed document suggests, the Emanuel administration already has a fairly clear picture of which Chicago public schools it wants to close.
The Chicago Tribune obtained a draft report dated September 10th which lays out the rationale for closing or combining 95 schools; most of them are on the South or West Side.
Still other schools would be gradually phased out.
At the time the draft report was prepared the Emanuel administration was still saying publicly that it had no specific number of closings in mind.
The report does not identify the schools targeted for closure.
A CPS spokeswoman insists there is not list of schools to close. She says that plan was proposed by past leadership at CPS and is not supported by new CPS CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett.
