Man Tasered at Chicago police station dies
A man Tasered at a Chicago police station has died.
It happened at the Calumet District Station on E. 111th St. Thursday afternoon.
Police say 38-year-old Philip Coleman was arrested Wednesday evening for beating his mother at her home at 128th and S. Morgan.
He reportedly became combative as officers tried to take him to court; that’s when he was first Tasered.
Police say he became aggressive again at Roseland Community Hospital, and received a second jolt, plus a sedative.
A short time later, he died.
Coleman’s father, Percy Coleman, told WGN-TV, “My son … (has) never been in trouble; he’s a grad of the University of Chicago. They won’t be able to run him out that he’s a drug dealer, this and that.”
The Independent Police Review Authority will investigate the circumstances surrounding Coleman’s death.
