A lawsuit filed in Cook County Court Wednesday accuses a gun website of illegally selling the weapon used to kill a woman from suburban Westmont.
Jitka Vesel was killed in April of 2011 by a man she dated briefly in Canada.
Dmitry Smirnov later confessed to using a GPS device to track Vesel. He shot her several times in an office parking lot in Oak Brook. He is currently serving a life sentence for her murder.
Last June, Benedict Ladera was sentenced to one year in prison for selling Smirnov the gun.
They used the website http://www.armslist.com.
The lawsuit claims the gun was sold illegally in a sale faciltated by the website.
The website does contain disclaimers telling users to follow state and federal gun laws.
Website officials have not responded to media calls for a comment about the lawsuit.
