The race to replace former congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. is filling up.
Former state lawmaker Robin Kelly officially joined the race Sunday. She’s currently a top aide to Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle.
Five others are also running. They are State Sen. Donne Trotter, 9th ward Ald. Anthony Beale, former congresswoman Debbie Halvorson, State Senate-elect Napoleon Harris and former congressman Mel Reynolds.
State senator Toi Hutchinson is expected to announce her intentions Monday.
But one prospect decided not to run: Pastor Corey Brooks said he will not run because he wants to focus on his family, and the projects he’s involved with.
A special primary will be on February 26.
On Sunday, Gov. Pat Quinn signed a measure that moves the special election to April 9.
Both the primary and the election coincide with municipal elections in the suburbs.
