Drew Peterson found guilty of murdering 3rd wife

A jury found Drew Peterson guilty of first degree murder in the death of his third wife Kathleen Savio.

“We finally did it, after all these years. We finally did it and we got justice. We got Drew,” said Savio’s sister Susan Doman.

A jury of seven men and five women found Peterson guilty of beating and drowning Savio in her bathtub in March 2004. They deliberated for more than 13 hours over the last day and a half before reaching the verdict.

Peterson faces up to 60 years in prison when he’s sentenced on November 26. He has already spent 3 and a half years in Will County Jail and he’s been on trial for more than five weeks.

Inside the courtroom, Peterson sat expressionless as Judge Ed Burmila read the guilty verdict.

Peterson’s defense lawyers say there is no physical evidence he killed her.

“You know what they say, a conviction is the first step in a successful appeal,” said Peterson’s lead defense attorney Joel Brodsky. “No, I wouldn’t do anything different.”
